Weekend Tidbits: Spaghetti alla Carbonara

This recipe has been sitting in my recipe file book for ages.  I gave it a try about a week ago and last weekend, I made a big batch.  I was not entirely fond of the usual carbonara recipes - the ones where the pasta is drowned in cream or, worse, milk (ugh!).

I was pleasantly glad to have finally tried this recipe because this is the real thing!  It uses no cream but a luxurious mixture of velvety eggs and creamy cheese.

Try it.  I know you'll love it. :)  In fact, Hon-some devoured it with much gusto!  On that note, let me just say that I love staying in during weekends.  Staying in allows me to create marvels from my tiny kitchen.

The weekend that was, lovelies. :)

Found the recipe here.

Wednesday Nugget

I came across this piece of loveliness here.  The poster is actually part of a restaurant identity endeavor.  The designer had to create a restaurant identity based on an original fictional restaurant.  The designer conceptualized the "Novel Tea Cafe,"  a tea cafe inspired by classic literature.

When I came across this, I viewed it differently.  I knew it was "Novel Tea Cafe" but for me, it was simply "Novel.  Tea.  Cafe."

Novel.
Tea.
Cafe.

I just need those three things and it would have been enough to call a day perfect.

Happy midweek, lovelies. :)  I hope you find three things that can make your own day perfect.

Let's Go on a Date: July and August 2012

I know, right?!?!  Super backlog!  Still, I want to document this little anniversary date package I gifted Hon-some with.  Last June, we went on a binge feast at North Park.  Last July, we trooped over to Ace Water Spa for four hours of relaxing massage and steam baths.

We weren't allowed to take pictures inside the spa so the picture I have here is from the Web (via Google Images).

Photo from here.

The spa was kind of strict about guests wearing the proper attire so if your significant other doesn't own a pair of trunks, well it's about time he does!  After we got dressed, we proceeded to the spa area.  I wouldn't say it was vast but at first, we didn't know where to start.

We started out with the soft massages like the bubble bed and bubble pool.  Relaxing whiffs of air and bubbles were emitted through small holes which massaged various points in the body.

Moderate massages like to rainfall acupuncture (strong drops of rain beat down your shoulders and back!) and the jet chair with foot massage were my favorites. :)

I love hard massages and the high pressure water massages were pleasantly mind-numbing.  Altogether, it was a wonderful experience for first-timers like us.  We went there first thing in the morning and capped off the date with a filling breakfast at McDonald's.

On another note, for our August date, Hon-some scored some "cheap" DVDs and had a DVD night at home.  I'm finally catching up on my favorite TV series while Hon-some's happy with his classic movies loot!

So there, our July and August dates.  Not really extravagant but special nonetheless. :)

Weekend Tidbits: The Phantom of the Opera

This was the absolute highlight of my weekend...

It was supposed to be our (Hon-some and me) September date but something came up so Hon-some didn't get to go.  My brother got his ticket...and was so grateful because the play was so G-O-O-D!!!

My mom went to watch too!

Even Mother Superior came to watch!

The famed chandelier that (slowly) crashed onstage...

But fine, this was another highlight of my weekend...

Hon-some took me and his family to Nihonbashitei, a Japanese restaurant.

 The appetizer

 Spicy Toro Maki!  Super yummy!

Beef curry!

What a weekend it was!  I'm still on LSS mode from the songs in the musical.  Hope you had a lovely weekend!
